Silverton Mountain Ski Area Overview

Silverton Mountain is an advanced-level ski area located near Silverton, Colorado. It is the highest and steepest ski area in North America operating with one chairlift. Silverton Mountain operates under a unique model, offering guided skiing during certain winter periods. At other times, it will operate normally.

Silverton Mountain Lift Tickets

Silverton Mountain offers 3 types of lift tickets: Day Lift Ticket, Heli Skiing, and Silverton Unguided Season Pass.

Day Lift Ticket

Silverton Mountain offers two options for their Day Lift Ticket: Guided Day Ticket and  Unguided Day Ticket.

  • Guided Day Ticket (1-4 Day): You will be accompanied by a guide in a group of around 8 people. It will involve hiking for 15-60 minutes to access the powder-filled terrain for 3-6 runs. This ticket is only available on Thursdays to Sundays. 
  • Unguided Day Ticket: This ticket for unguided skiing is only available during the spring ski period. It gives you access to the backcountry within the ski boundaries.

Heli Skiing

Silverton Mountain also offers 6 Run Heli Day skiing for their guests but minimum bookings are needed for it to operate on any given day. The price is $1,290 (excluding taxes and subject to change). 

Silverton Unguided Season Pass

There are two options for Silverton’s Season Passes:

  • Silverton Unguided Season Base Pass includes access to Silverton Mountain on Wednesdays to Sundays throughout the unguided spring ski season. 
  • Silverton Unguided Premium Pass includes the same access as the Season Base Pass plus access to partner resorts, including 2 days at Arapahoe Basin and 2 days at Monarch Mountain.

The season passes are non-refundable and non-transferable upon purchase. 

Nearest Town to Silverton Mountain

The town of Silverton is the closest town to Silverton Mountain. It is 6 miles from Silverton Mountain, approximately 15 minutes drive. The town is part of the San Juan Skyway, a scenic byway with breathtaking views, and it's near the Million Dollar Highway, one of the most beautiful drives in the USA. 

Restaurants Near Silverton Mountain

There is no on-mountain dining but there are several well-loved restaurants within a 15-minute drive of Silverton Mountain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there ski packages to Silverton Mountain Ski Area?

There are no ski vacation packages to Silverton Mountain Ski Area as it is a small local resort tailored for expert skiers. That said, there are ski vacation packages to most destination resorts in Colorado.

Do I need to bring my own Avalanche equipment?

You are required to carry Beacon, Shovel, and Prove at all times. You can bring your own or rent it at the resort. Each item can be rented separately or as a package. If you decided to bring your own, please make sure that:

  • Beacons: must be equipped with three antennas, can't be analog, and should be updated with any manufacturer-provided upgrades.
  • Shovels: should come with a handle and be made of metal
  • Probe: have a length of at least 260 cm

Can I rent ski equipment at Silverton Mountain?

Yes, you can rent ski equipment at the resort. Each item can be rented separately except boots or snowboard bindings. K2 Fat Skis and Venture Snowboard can be rented at $69 per day. K2 ski poles, Smith goggles, and Smith helmet can be rented at $30 per day.

Note, rented gear is not for backcountry and/or other operation.
